Militia Service Act

The Militia Service Act of 1917 outlines the 10 distinct classes from whom drafts will be selected. Voluntary enlistment is to be permitted until each class is called, and men needed in industry and on the farm more than in the army are not to be enlisted. Men who fail to respond when called are to be tried by court martial as deserters.
