Calling Out Class 1

Men in Class 1 of the Military Service Act, 1917 are officially called out on October 13, 1917. They must report for service or file a claim for exemption no later than November 10. Grounds for exemption are listed and relate to work in the national interest other than military service, serious hardship, ill health or disability, and conscientious objection to combat. Men who fail to report or file a claim will be treated as military deserters.
